A member of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Vishnu Nene Limon Abayateye, has petitioned the GMA for the removal of its president, Dr. Frank Serebour over directive for GMA members to continue working on October 10 the strike day declared by Organized Labour over galamsey.
The GMA president yesterday told the media the association will not participate in a strike without timelines and directed its members in a press release to “continue providing full services without interruptions.
But In the petition, against this stance, Dr. Abayateye criticized Dr. Serebour for unilaterally issuing a statement that the GMA would not participate in the strike, without consulting the National Executive Council or the general assembly.
This he says contravenes article 16 of the GMA constitution,” the petitioner also argued that Dr. Serebour’s stance has brought the association into disrepute in the eyes of well-meaning Ghanaians, adding that GMA’s reputation had been compromised.
The petition, submitted under article 23 of the GMA constitution, seeks to gather the necessary two-thirds support from the general assembly to proceed with Dr. Serebour’s removal.
