The Media Foundation for West Africa has condemned the assault on three Multimedia Group journalists at a mining site in Asumenya, Ashanti Region.
Armed men, allegedly linked to Edel metallum Resources Limited, kidnapped and assaulted the team, seizing their equipment.
These armed men kidnapped, assaulted, and seized their equipment of three staff members of The Multimedia Group.
The three staff members including Erastus Asare Donkor were attacked by armed men claiming to work for Edelmetallum Resources Limited in the Ashanti Region.
Over ten heavily armed men forcibly abducted the team, took them to an undisclosed location, subjected them to brutal beatings, and later abandoned them.
The team had been filming the destruction caused by illegal mining when the attack occurred.
Information reaching our front desk indicate that three suspects have been arrested in connection with the assault.
Speaking with the Executive Director for MFWA Sulemana Braimah said they are expecting the government and the police to take a legal action on the situation and they do support it.
He said he can’t understand why these things are suppose to be happening in our country.
