Barely 48 hours after a report from Global Info Analysts suggested that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is set to lead the 2024 Presidential Election with 49.4% of the total votes, a new survey shows additional insights. John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, follows closely with 45.1%.
The recent survey, conducted between August and September 2024, sampled thousands of registered voters across Ghana’s regions.
It revealed a significant trend of “skirt and blouse” voting in the upcoming general elections, with NDC Members of Parliament reportedly outperforming Mahama in 29 out of 111 constituencies, while NPP MPs are outpacing Dr. Bawumia in 58 constituencies.
This trend of voters choosing different parties for the presidential and parliamentary elections could pose a significant challenge for the ruling party, especially in closely contested constituencies.
Despite Dr. Bawumia’s projected national lead, the poll indicates a very tight race. Undecided voters, currently at 5.2%, could still sway the final outcome, while only 0.3% of voters intend to support other candidates.
Further details of the poll are expected to be released soon.
