In a tragic incident at East Legon, a 74-year-old British man, John Scott Hughes, lost his life during a sexual encounter with his 20-year-old girlfriend, Pearl Agbomadzi, at a popular entertainment venue. The incident took place on August 2, 2024, after the couple booked a private room at Philipo’s Movie House.
According to the prosecution’s account, Mr. Hughes had invited Pearl to meet him at American House, from where they proceeded to the movie house. After watching an adult film, they engaged in a consensual intimate session in room 7. During the encounter, Mr. Hughes reportedly became unconscious and collapsed onto the floor.
Pearl quickly sought assistance from the reception staff, who then alerted the police. Mr. Hughes was rushed to Legon Hospital, but medical personnel on duty pronounced him dead upon arrival.
The deceased’s wife subsequently filed a complaint, leading to the 20-year-old Pearl Agbomadzi being charged with murder. At a hearing on October 24, the defense lawyer, John Baptist Ayedze, requested bail for Pearl, who had been in police custody since the incident. The prosecution did not oppose the request, and High Court Judge Lydia Osei Marfo granted bail set at GHC100,000 with a surety.
In her closing remarks, Judge Marfo urged elderly men to exercise caution regarding relationships with significantly younger women, suggesting that the age gap could pose health risks.
