A research fellow at the Center for Democratic Development Ghana (CDD- Ghana), Professor John Osae- Kwapong has recommended that, the court speedily resolves the ongoing dispute concerning the speaker’s authority to declare certain seats vacant.
Commenting on the speaker’s ruling on indefinitely adjourning parliamentary proceedings, Professor Osae- Kwapong said, even though parliament is out of session indefinitely, the rules also allow that within seven days they can recall parliament.
“The question is, would it become a see-saw, call and adjourn? So, this is where sooner rather than later, for the sake of good governance, government business still needs to run and hopefully, we can find a solution to this governance crisis.”
The Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, on Tuesday October 22, announced the adjournment of parliament indefinitely following unsolved issues on the four vacant seats in parliament.
