Former President John Agyekum Kufuor believes every Ghanaian must suffer consequences for their actions.
His comments come after government faced criticism over the arrest of Democracy Hub demonstrators.
Democracy Hub demonstrators embarked on a 3-day demonstration from 21st September to 23rd September, 2024. The demonstration was however marred with some chaotic scenes, leading to the arrest of some 54 persons.
These arrested individuals were charged with various offences, ranging from destruction of public property, causing public disturbance and nuisance and obstructing traffic.
A demonstration under the #FreeTheCitizens took place demanding for the release of these protestors with some advocacy groups calling on President Akufo-Addo to direct the release of the arrested protestors.
According to president Kufuor, all law breakers must face appropriate sanctions for their actions, citing the protestors as no exception.
The former President admitted that Ghanaians have every right to protest, but insists should they end in chaos, persons involved have to be held accountable.
“If you attack a police officer or take away their car key, you must face the law or be punished. We can’t let them go scot-free”, he stated during an interview on Angel FM on Wednesday, October 10, 2024.
