Former President of Ghana, John Kofi Agyekum Kufuor has validated plans by the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to fight illegal mining (galamsey) and preserve the nation’s land and water bodies.
Former President Kufuor described solutions proffered by Dr. Bawumia as immediate solutions which are bold and will help the country.
Dr. Bawumia addressing stakeholders in Upper Denkyira West in the Central Region said his administration will permit registered small-scale miners to make full use of data from the geological survey authority in their work.
“We want to implement something new which is that we would cause the Geological Survey Authority to map the exact location of gold deposits in mining area so that mining will not just be digging from place to place, the miners will know exactly where the gold is,” Dr. Bawumia said.
Reacting to this, former President Kufuor expressed happiness at Dr. Bawumia’s solution, saying, “The immediate solutions are some of what a few days ago were introduced by Bawumia, and I was happy he said it like that.”
