Market women in Kasoa Old Market in the Awutu Senya East Constituency in the Central region have urged the government to prioritize sanitation, specifically by addressing the lack of waste containers and limited toilet facilities in the market.
They lamented that the absence of dustbins forces market women and drivers to dump refuse indiscriminately, attracting flies and creating unhealthy conditions.
This situation compromises the market’s cleanliness, affects sales and puts public health at risk.
They highlighted that the only toilet facility serving the market and surrounding communities is closed at night. Residents are forced to use polythene bags and dump them in the market when nature calls.
The market women emphasized that toilet facilities are as essential as pharmaceutical shops and pleaded with the assembly to ensure the facility is always open to the public.
The market women urged the government to provide dustbins where market women and individuals residing around the market can dump freely without resorting to indiscriminate dumping.
