Vice-president IMANI Africa, Bright Simons has reacted to the New Patriotic Party Caucus in parliament’s request for the Speaker of Parliament to recall parliament to consider outstanding public business.
According to Bright Simons Ghana’s ruling party wants parliament to reconvene for just two days to ram through many businesses which he tagged as unbelievable.
In a Memo addressed to the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin from the leader of the NPP caucus Alban Bagbin, Hon. Alexander Afenyo Markin lister about five business outstanding government businesses and bills that need urgent attention by parliament.
Some of the businesses include requests for tax exemptions for designated beneficiaries under the One District, One Factory Programme; Ghana Financial Stability Fund, an International Development Association facility of Two Hundred and Fifty Million United States Dollars ($250,000,000) and the consideration of the President’s Nominations for Appointment as Justices of the Supreme Court.
Hon. Alexander Afenyo Markin in his Memo wants parliament to reconvene on Thursday 28th November and Friday 29th November as the scheduled dates for this emergency recall.
Reacting to the NPP caucus Memo Bright Simons on his X page wrote, “Just look at the sheer number of (very important) laws, policies, and measures that Ghana’s ruling party wants the Parliament to reconvene for JUST TWO DAYS to RAM THROUGH!”
Bright Simons further stated that if the opposition NDC caucus agrees to participate in the recall it will be the clearest sign to Ghanaians their claims of being interested in improving the governance are just a show.
He further wrote on X, “Unbelievable! Essentially, they see the Parliament as just a rubber stamp. If the Opposition agree to participate in this racket, it would be the clearest sign to voters that all their claims of being interested in change and improved governance etc are just a show. What a lark!”.
