Executive Director of the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), Prof. Kwesi Prempeh, says some of the 13 presidential candidates on the ballot paper heading into the December 7, 2024 elections do not meet the required requirements to contest in an election.
According to him, the Electoral Commission (EC) failed to do the needful and uphold their mandate by allowing unqualified persons to contest in the 2024 presidential elections.
He indicated that most of these political parties are simply acting as proxies of the two major political parties — the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP)—for the purpose of influencing decision-making at the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), and expressed surprise at the EC pretending not to be aware.
Prof. Prempeh, vented his frustration at the first anniversary public lecture in honour of the late Anthony Akoto Ampaw (Sheey Sheey) in Accra yesterday.
