Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson a renowned Ghanaian clergyman, has said if Ghana’s status quo remains the same, the country will become a failed state.
The renowned Clergyman was reacting to the galamsey menace which is plaguing the country.
Speaking in an interview with TV3 Hot Issues, he said, “ If the status quo remains we will get to the stage of becoming a failed state, we have depended on cocoa production, and we are an economy that is based on mines and agriculture, Kwame Nkrumah in his wisdom asked miners to go down and get the minerals and leave the surface for farmers, for us feed on that wisdom has been lost, we now getting the minerals on the surface taking the vegetation, taking the topsoil and then leaving potholes”.
According to him, Kwame Nkrumah’s vision was far more correct.
He further added, “So if we go this way, we lose our vegetation, and the era of climate change you don’t want to lose your vegetation, we lose our topsoil then food production will become an issue”.
