The Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has rejected President Akufo-Addo’s call for a debate with Vice President and the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to him, engaging with Bawumia would only elevate the Vice President’s status, rather than addressing the country’s pressing issues.
Mahama’s response comes after Akufo-Addo disclosed that he was avoiding a debate due to fear of Bawumia exposing weaknesses in his policies.
Speaking to supporters in the Ningo Prampram Constituency of the Greater Accra region, Mahama countered that debating Bawumia is unnecessary, emphasizing that the Vice President should instead focus on addressing the government’s failings and debating the Ghanaian people directly.
“Nana Akufo Addo asked why I will not debate Bawumia, I will not elevate Bawumia to my level to go and sit and debate him. Their campaign is failing”he said.
As head of the Economic Management Team, Mahama holds Bawumia responsible for Ghana’s economic challenges.
He demanded that Bawumia apologizes to Ghanaians for the government’s economic mismanagement, taking responsibility for the nation’s economic hardships rather than seeking to deflect attention through a debate.
