Kofi Bentil, a Private Legal Practitioner has shared how much of vindication the Supreme Court’s ruling has brought to him on the Vacated Seat issue.
In an interview with Joy, he shared how humbled he felt after his long standing conviction was matched up with the ruling of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court’s ruling which stood at 5-2 on November 13, suggested that, Parliament’s declaration of the four vacant seats are unconstitutional and should be reversed, giving the NPP its Majority status in Parliament again.
Kofi Bentil mentioned that “It cannot be that an action in this Parliament that takes effect in the next Parliament should be allowed to disrupt this Parliament.” He added that, the decisions of the Parliamentarians whose seats were declared by Speaker Bagbin did not state that they have left their party this year, but rather are seeking to go independent for the ninth Parliament should they win.
He further stressed that, the ruling of the Supreme Court clearly seeks that, the operations of this eighth Parliament does not get disrupted with the decisions of the M.Ps to go independent for the next Parliament. This he said has been his long standing opinion and conviction since the issue in Parliament gained discussion momentum.
