The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North in the Ashanti Region, Andy Appiah Kubi has said he does not fault Speaker Bagbin for simply following the precedent that existed to declare four seats vacant in parliament.
According to Andy Appiah Kubi, he advised the then majority NPP to get ready with their writ, but they did not listen to him.
The MP said, “I don’t fault the speaker there is a precedent there and he followed it, until the law speaks to such precedents aside, he has followed precedents so you can’t fault him. It happened in 2020, the whole of 2020 till now nobody has challenged the decision”.
“I have advised that we should get ready with our writ because this is what will happen they will tell you, if only they had listened to what I said, like early morning we would have filed the writ with its application to stay the execution of this ruling if we served it, that would have taken effect for the status quo to remain until on such time a motion on the injunction is taken”, he added.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, has officially declared four parliamentary seats vacant. They include Peter Yaw Kwakye Ackah of Amenfi Central (NDC), Andrew Amoakoh Asiama of Fomena, Kojo Asante of Suhum (NPP), and Cynthia Morrison of Agona West (NPP).
This follows a formal petition submitted by Haruna Iddrisu, an NDC MP, to the Speaker.
