Member of Parliament for Adansi-Asokwa, Kobina Tahir (K.T.) Hammond has reacted to the Speaker of Parliament’s decision to declare four seats vacant.
According to KT Hammond, the four MPs are going independent in the next parliament not the current 8th parliament.
KT Hammond said, “We think it is very wrong, it is fundamentally wrong, yes there are these provisions that he alluded to but as far we are concerned the input of those provisions the input is not what he has articulated today”.
“This individual has said that going into the next election, not this parliament, into parliament 2025 they propose to be the independent candidates we think that it has absolutely nothing to do with their standing now as members of the current parliament”, he added.
The MP further revealed that Speaker Bagbin’s decision was wrong, “We think it is wrong, we have sent a document to the Supreme Court for interpretation the speaker himself says it is a matter which calls for interpretation somehow he has taken the matter on himself and he has ruled that those people have vacated their position, declaring us a minority straight away so I suspect he is going to ask them to move over, this is horrendous it’s outrageous, I’ve never seen anything like this in my life”.
KT Hammond noted that this particular 8TH parliament has been something else.
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, yesterday 17 October 2024 officially declared four parliamentary seats vacant. They include Peter Yaw Kwakye Ackah of Amenfi Central (NDC), Andrew Amoakoh Asiama of Fomena, Kojo Asante of Suhum (NPP), and Cynthia Morrison of Agona West (NPP).
