A tragic incident unfolded during the Homowo festival celebrations in Oyarifa when a group of assailants attempted to attack Robert Lamptey, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for the Madina Constituency. The attack took place while Lamptey was visiting the community to show support for the festivities.
Eyewitnesses reported that a young man initiated the assault, but Lamptey’s security detail intervened swiftly. However, the situation quickly escalated when the assailant’s accomplices targeted one of the security guards with cutlasses, leaving him severely injured. As the wounded guard was being rushed to the hospital, the attackers relentlessly pursued him and continued their assault.
In a further tragic twist, the Uber driver transporting the injured guard was also brutally beaten, resulting in a fracture. The police have since arrested three suspects in connection with the attack.
This violent episode has marred the Homowo celebrations and raised concerns about political violence in the lead-up to the elections. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack, aiming to identify all those involved and ensure that justice is served.
