Ghanaian actress, Habiba Sinare, has shared details about the difficulties that contributed to the end of her marriage to Black Stars striker Majeed Waris.
The actress and philanthropist, who was previously married to Black Stars striker, Majeed Waris has discussed some challenges they faced in their marriage which led to their divorce.
Habiba in an interview with Mz Gee in the recent episode of ‘Just Us’, disclosed that her previous marriage was not all the picture-perfect existence one imagines when one marries an athlete.
According to her, although people think and see getting married to a football player as wonderful on the outside, the truth is its often difficult.
“Getting married to a soccer player is not easy. No time, there’s nothing…either you make yourself happy by travelling or coming back to Ghana to enjoy yourself, she said, emphasizing how the lifestyle demands great independence and emotional strength.
She attributed one of the major reasons why their marriage ended to her ex-husband’s deep devotion to his family which caused a lack of intimacy and attention they shared.
“When we are outside, he still calls and talks to them and everything…I just didn’t understand the fact that we can’t share something intimate together, you always have to get your parents involved and me being the woman I don’t get my family involved,” she told Mz Gee.
Reflecting on the situation, Habiba expressed that she didn’t involve her own family in their marital issues until much later, as she preferred to keep things to herself.
“I am naturally that type of person, I like to keep to myself… even my mum didn’t know what I was going through until we had a sitting,” she said.
She added that, after deliberating about the situation, she decided to walk out of the marriage as she was always deeply troubled as a wife.
“…When I was leaving, he said he wouldn’t choose me over his family. That hurt me deeply. That sentence still echoes in my life. When he said that, I thought, ‘Wow, I am not family after all.’ When you are angry, you say things that go too far. Sometimes, you don’t mean them but words are powerful. I’m someone who takes words seriously,” she emphasized.
Waris and Habiba Sinare tied the knot in 2017 but separated sixteen months after.
