Media personality Bernard Avle has criticized the government for mismanaging the country’s economy
He highlighted the outflow of profits from local businesses to foreign shareholders and the alarming rate of inflation that has left many struggling.
“While we report trade surpluses on paper, the reality is that our economic fundamentals are weak,” he stated.
Mr Avle underscored the impact of large foreign-owned companies on the local economy, emphasizing how profits are often repatriated rather than reinvested.
“We are importing $300 million worth of rice and tons of sugar while our local farmers are unable to compete.”
“Many young people cannot afford to marry or live independently due to the economic pressures they face.”
He called on politicians to prioritize the needs of the citizens over political gains, urging for transparency and accountability.
