Coffin makers in Subin have raised concerns over the lack of government support for their trade, which plays a significant role in the local economy.
During an appearance on Channel One TV’s Community Forum on November 26, artisans shared how their work not only impacts local markets but also contributes to the broader community.
One of the coffin designer with over 40 years of experience, emphasized the need for government intervention to help professionalize the trade.
He proposed that the government, through the District Assembly, could provide financial support and capacity-building programs to enhance the trade’s growth and prevent it from collapsing.
He also noted that the craftsmanship involved in coffin making could contribute to the tourism sector.
He explained that tourists are often fascinated by unique ethnic arts and crafts, and with the right support, the industry could attract visitors and boost the local economy.
He called for programs to help artisans increase productivity, expand markets, and generate more income for local communities.
According to him government has failed to invest and help individuals in the Coffin business
