The Presidential candidate for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has disclosed that Ghanaian footballers playing the home AFCON qualifiers game outside Ghana the biggest disgrace ever.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF), in a statement to the Ghana Football Association announced they had withdrawn their approval for the use of Baba Yara Stadium to host Black Stars qualifying home games.
John Mahama on his campaign tour indicated that, “The latest news now is that CAF has banned Ghana from hosting AFCON qualifiers because of the bad nature of our football pitches. So Ghanaian footballers have to travel all the way to other countries just to play football. This is the biggest disgrace in the history of Ghana.”
Ghana is now likely to play against Sudan outside the country, with Togo or Côte d’Ivoire being the likely country to host the Blackstar’s.
