The President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Frank Serebour has finally broken its silence on the Association chickening out of the Organised Labour strike.
According to Dr. Frank Serebour, the Ghana Medical Association it must be stated clearly and unambiguously that the Ghana Medical Association is not a subset of Organised Labour.
Speaking at the Ghana Medical Association 66th Annual General Conference, he said, “Galamsey is something most of us hate, the destruction of our forest reserve and the pollution of our water bodies is unpardonable, I will however want to address the ghost of Organised Labor at this congress”.
“Indeed, this is a creation of our own the Frankenstein of our time which may continue to hunt us all into the future it must be stated clearly and unambiguously that the Ghana Medical Association is not a subset of Organised Labour, we are not, we are an independent association and a Labour Union that takes and should take decisions on our own terms and principles”.
Dr. Frank Serebour added that GMA cannot and should not be salivating when Organised Labour rings the bell.
He further went on to detail the GMA’s decision not to partake in the strike action saying, “The decision by the GMA not to join the Organised Labour strike or intended strike on the 10 of October 2024 was a majority decision by the council of the GMA, and you hear people say it was not a council decision, the decision was taken on the 3rd October 2024.
“Two days after the decision was taken before members could be informed there was a leak from the council platform to the media this planted the virus of chaos and generated various forms of discussions which some seriously uncomplimentary”, he added.
Last month news broke that the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) would not take part in Organized Labor’s anti-galamsey strike. Organized Labour, however, later suspended their planned October 10 strike over the illegal mining menace.
