Galamseyers have defied the directives of President Akufo-Addo as they return with several cheng fang machines on the River Offin.
A video shared by 3NewsGH showed the current state of the Offin River at Kyekyewere in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality of the Central Region.
Several cheng-fang machines are on the river with illegal gold miners desecrating the further already polluted river.
The water bodies in Ghana have been destroyed by illegal mining activities, which have introduced harmful chemicals into them (water bodies).
There has also been research indicating that Ghana may soon import drinking water if the galamsey menace is left unchecked.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo in a press statement dated October 9, 2024, directed the Minister for Defense to deploy additional military forces to intensify the ongoing “Operation Halt”, which aims to curb illegal mining activities.
