A group of Galamsey Operators are protesting the Organised Labour’s nationwide strike scheduled for Thursday, October 10.
In a video shared by UTV Ghana on social, the galamsey operators in Amenfi East were seen in red headbands majority of them women, they staged their protest saying, “Galamsey y3 b3 y3” which translates in English, “galamsey we will do it”.
An elderly, woman spotted at the protest was lamenting on the floor saying, “ɔkɔm bɛkum y3n” which means we will die of hunger.
The Organised Labour is set to strike on Thursday, October 10, after the group expressed dissatisfaction with President Akufo-Addo’s response to their demands, despite his reaffirmed commitment to addressing the illegal mining issue.
Organized Labour has been urging the president to declare a state of emergency on illegal mining and implement long-term solutions to combat the menace.
