The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has revealed that the issue of galamsey could have been resolved if their 2021 environmental damage report had been considered.
Speaking in an interview with some media houses the GSS, said, “this is not the first time we did publish, 2021 we published about the environmental degradation and show how we have devastated our lands but it seem nobody took notice of it, but now people have seen because water bodies are being user friendly that we can drink and we have to pay more money to be able to use”.
The GSS added that when they provide the information, they expect engagement which will bring solutions.
GSS stated, “For us, we will continue to bring the information, but we will depend on individuals, scholars, media men, the public sector, and policymakers to engage so that we bring better Ghana for all of us”.
The Ghana Statistical Service noted that their mandate is to provide information and that they cannot force people to engage with the data.
