Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has condemned men who fail to take financial responsibility for their families.
According to him, such men have ‘no right to intimacy’ because the essential role of financial support in marriage, is the core duty of every man.
In a video on his Instagram page captioned, “Women protect your husbands BUT DO NOT provide them with the type of covering that leads to irresponsibility. Many husbands shy away from their responsibilities when the wife is hardworking. I AM A WITNESS”.
The 62 year old veteran actor went on to emphasize that men must provide for their families through hard work and dedication, a principle rooted in societal and religious teachings.
He argued that a man’s financial responsibility is crucial in marriage, and failing to fulfill it undermines his role as a provider.
“I’ve noticed a troubling trend where men depend on others for financial support. Even more concerning is when women defend their husbands just to keep their family issues private” he highlighted.
Kanayo described the financial obligation to a family as both a social expectation and a moral duty, warning that neglecting it could lead to a breakdown of the family structure.
He advised women not to cover for their husbands’ financial shortcomings, as this could foster ‘laziness and irresponsibility’.
Additionally, he encouraged young women to choose partners who understand their responsibilities in supporting their families.
“A man who cannot provide for his household is worse than nothing and a man who can’t feed his family has no right to engage in intimate relations with a woman” he emphasized.
He noted that it is a responsibility and advised young women to be mindful of whom they marry.
