The General Secretary of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) George Afful has vehemently denied claims that the party has withdrawn from the 2024 presidential race, calling such reports fake news.
This comes in response to false reports that emerged stating the GFP had officially pulled out of the election following the appointment of Roman Fada as the party’s new flagbearer, after the death of their founder, Madam Akua Donkor.
In a letter addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and signed by the National Organizer, Richard Boctchway, the GFP had clarified that while the decision was difficult, it was made in honor of the late Madam Akua Donkor’s legacy and her contributions to the party. However, these reports were misleading.
Speaking in an interview with Yawa News, the General Secretary George Afful confirmed that the GFP has successfully filed the nominations of its candidate for the upcoming elections and is fully committed to participating in the December 7 polls.
Roman Fada, the newly appointed flagbearer, was accompanied by the General Secretary when they submitted the necessary documents to the Electoral Commission.
The GFP has urged the public to ignore the false claims and reassured their supporters of their readiness to contest the election.
