The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) is urging staff of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE)to reconsider their decision to embark on strike action today Wednesday, September 18, 2024.
The Divisional Executive Council of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Division of the Public Services Workers’ Union of TUC (Ghana) announced plans to embark on the indefinite strike action over the failure of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) to reconvene for the continuation of their negotiations after a seven-day ultimatum given by the union at the last meeting.
a statement signed by the Divisional Chairperson, Rebecca Colecraft, stated that the union submitted proposals to the FWSC for the negotiation of allowances for NCCE staff in May 2023. However, the FWSC failed to come to the negotiation table despite several reminders and consultations.
However, on July 23 the FWSC reconvened a meeting for negotiations to begin further delaying negotiations after the submission of the proposals.
The Divisional Executive Council, thus considering the current economic hardship, the constant erosion of purchasing power, the deplorable working conditions of staff, and the unnecessary delay in the negotiation process, resolved to embark on this industrial action for FWSC to immediately secure the necessary mandate and reconvene a meeting to conclude the negotiations.
But the fair wages in a counter press statement dismissed the claims of delay tactics and said negotiations concerning the conditions of service for NCCE staff are still ongoing .
The release signed by Head of Public Affairs, Emelia Ennin, reaffirmed its commitment to the ongoing negotiations and urged the NCCE Division of PSWU to reconsider its strike decision.
