The Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has hits hard at the judiciary for remanding protesters of Democracy Hub.
The former President described the decision by the judiciary as Draconian and called on authorities to grant them bail immediately, he said, “Draconian judicial decisions such as this won’t stop the youth. The authorities must request the judge to review the remand decision and grant them bail immediately”.
In Mahama statement share by Woezor TV, he added that, “The youth of Ghana have a right to engage in manifestations to protect their future, especially in respect of key issues like the destruction of the environment through illegal mining,”
John Maham further stated that remanding Democracy Hub protestors for 2 weeks is high-hand and an abuse of their rights.
About 50 protesters of the Democracy Hub who pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit a crime are currently in remand waiting for their court hearing.
