Parliamentary Candidate for the Cape Coast North constituency, Horace Ekow Ewusi, in service to his community, has with swift action swooped in to save lecturers and students at the Cape Coast Nursing and Midwifery Training College.
The Cape Coast Nursing and Midwifery Training College has been battling with acute water shortages, which had affected teaching and learning at the institution.
At a time when the college thought there was no solution in sight, Ekow Ewusi saved the day by
establishing a water distribution station and installed a booster system capable of delivering 23,000 litres of water throughout the school’s hostel facilities, including bathrooms and toilets.
Prior to becoming the NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate in the region, Ekow Ewusi was the Vice Chairman of the NPP up until he was suspended for his alleged involvement in galamsey activities. He was also a Secretary to the Interministerial Committee on Illegal Mining.
Ekow Ewusi was later arrested after a complaint made by the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Prof Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to investigate him (Ekow Ewusi) for his role in the missing excavators and other mining equipment.
In the letter to the police CID, Professor Frimpong-Boateng stated:
“Mr. Ekow Ewusi was contracted to cart excavators and other vehicles and pieces of equipment seized by Operation Vanguard to designated areas for safe keeping.
“We have received information that he sent an unknown number of equipment to unauthorized locations, including one in Tema. This was confirmed by the caretaker of the depot in Tema.
Information reaching me indicates that he has sold an unknown number of the pieces of equipment, including excavators.
“I wish to appeal to the Police Authorities to investigate the matter.”
Ekow Ewusi’s arrest came as no surprise because it has been a common knowledge that functionaries of the governing party are among the reason the president’s avowed war on illegal mining has failed.
Now, five years down the line, Ekow Ewusi is walking freely about and is contesting to become MP of the Cape Coast North constituency. Ekow now goes about portraying himself as the people’s saviour with his gesture to the Cape Coast Nursing and Midwifery Training College, when he is equally responsible for their plight.
Water shortages have become an increasing concern for Ghana as illegal mining activities has destroyed the country’s water bodies. The Ghana Water Company Limited, has warned that if illegal mining activities are not brought to an end, the country will end up importing water.
Ekow Ewusi is not deserving of praise for this supposedly act of generosity. He should face the music for his actions. Or has he supposedly turned a new leaf and is attempting to right past wrongs?
