The youth of Dormaa Ahenkro in the Bono Region of Ghana, have arrested a dozen of illegal miners (galamseyers).
The youth who had formed a taskforce stormed a galamsey site, arresting these galamseyers who are predominantly northerners.
With the backing of Dormaahene Osagyefo Agyeman Badu II, who also doubles as President of the Bono Regional house of chiefs, the youth bravely organized the raid in a bid to curb the menace of illegal mining in Ghana.
The Dormaa youth also seized a number of equipment from the galamseyers.
Ghanaians have risen up against the galamsey menace as water pollution and land degradation has risen exponentially in recent times because of the illegality.
President Akufo-Addo recently issued a directly halting all mining activities in water bodies and forest reserves. He has also deployed military personnel to fight galamsey happening on water bodies across the country.
