Donald Trump has criticized Oprah Winfrey, claiming she is no longer the same woman who interviewed him years ago. In a recent post on Truth Social, the former president reflected on his 2011 appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show alongside his family, suggesting that Oprah has since changed her stance on key national issues. Trump specifically pointed to her recent interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, saying the Oprah of today wouldn’t have tolerated the current immigration problems facing the country.
Trump used much of his post to attack Kamala Harris, calling her mentally unfit for the presidency. He accused her of failing to answer fundamental questions about the economy and other significant issues during the interview. He went on to claim that Oprah looked visibly uncomfortable during the exchange, implying that even she didn’t believe in Harris’s abilities as a leader.
Oprah’s interview with Harris, which also featured celebrity appearances from Julia Roberts, Jennifer Lopez, and Ben Stiller, generated notable moments, including Harris joking about defending her home with a gun. As with much of the political discourse leading up to the 2024 election, reactions to the interview have been divided along party lines—Democrats praising it, and Republicans dismissing it.
Despite the current political divide, it’s worth noting that Trump once had a close relationship with Oprah. He frequently appeared on her show and even said in a 1999 interview with Larry King that he’d consider Oprah as a potential running mate if he ever ran for office. However, in today’s political climate, that sentiment seems far in the past.
