A viral photo has emerged online showing disturbing image of the River Densu entering the Weija Dam.
The viral photo was shared by Sports Journalist Gary Al-Smith on her X page with a statement which read, “Good morning. The news at 0800 GMT. This is the Koforidua Water Works, around where the River Densu enters the Weija Dam, which feeds potable water to most in the western parts of Accra”.
The Weija Dam is the source of Water, for Ghana Water Company consumers in Accra this new development could generate a major health crisis for the residents of Accra.
The Ghana Water Company on numerous occasions have said they are unable to treat the water for its consumers due to the turbidity of the water from this galamsey affected rivers, forcing the company’s treatment plant in some regions to shut down on some occasions.
Meanwhile in Accra some Ghanaians have hit the streets in to protest their displeasure against illegal mining destroying the river bodies in the country and are demanding action from the government.
