New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe (Abronye), has claimed that Organized Labor demanded money from government to call off its planned strike against illegal mining.
However, the Adhoc Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining has dismissed allegations, describing it as baseless and unfounded.
In a press statement released on Thursday, September 19, 2024, and signed by the Committee’s Chairman and Minister for National Security, Albert Kan-Dapaah, to address the matter, Ghanaians were urged to disregard the claims emphatically stating, “The Committee hereby calls on the public to disregard the claims as same are baseless and unfounded. No such demand has been made and no such payment has been made either.”
“The engagement between the Committee and Organized Labor was held in good faith and without inducement. We entreat the public to disregard such false claims,” he reiterated.
The Committee pledged to continue engaging and collaborating with all stakeholders to achieve the desired outcomes in the fight against illegal mining.
Organized Labor earlier this week put forward demands for the government to take firm action against illegal mining.
The labor unions warned that failure to address their concerns will lead to a nationwide strike.
