The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mustapha, has issued a public apology to Professor Ransford Gyampo following a series of unsubstantiated claims made against the academic.
The apology, dated November 1, 2024, follows statements Mustapha made on October 28, in which he alleged that Prof. Gyampo, a University of Ghana professor, was collaborating with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to hinder student voting rights by leveraging the ongoing strike by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) as a diversion.
Mustapha’s original statement also claimed that Prof. Gyampo was motivated by a promised political appointment within a potential future NDC administration.
Additionally, he accused the professor of tarnishing his international reputation through alleged misconduct involving students.
However, after engagement with Prof. Gyampo’s legal team, Mustapha acknowledged the defamatory nature of these accusations and admitted to lacking evidence for his claims.
In his retraction, Mustapha expressed regret for the impact of his previous statements and pledged to ensure that his apology receives the same level of publicity across media platforms as the initial allegations.
This formal retraction marks a significant move as the NPP official seeks to mend relations following the widely publicized claims against Prof. Gyampo.
