Deputy National Imam of Ahlussunna Wal Jama’a (ASWAJ), Sheikh Mohammed Kamil Mohammed, has urged politicians to refrain from exploiting religious politics to avoid divisiveness and violence going into the December polls.
Speaking at the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Al-azharyya Islamic SHS cadet corps at Old Tafo, he noted that some politicians have been embarking on religious politics campaigns aimed at persuading voters to vote for them.
Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that such a campaign approach can lead to divisive and violent outcomes, citing it as the cause of some election-related violence in some nations.
He, therefore, urged the politicians and the various political parties to avoid religious politics and focus on policy-based campaigns to avoid any unforeseen circumstances going into the December 7 general elections.
For his part, Ibrahim Musah, who is in charge of the Al-azharyya Islamic SHS cadet corps, also appealed to the government to prioritize the cadet corps in recruiting people into the various security services since they have the required training.
