The Ghana Police Service has arrested the Convener of Democracy Hub, Oliver Barker-Vormawor.
His arrest comes after the police embarked on a manhunt for him, follwing his actions at the three day Democracy Hub demonstration in Accra.
The protests which resulted in roadblocks and significant traffic disruptions at key intersections, heightened tensions between protesters and law enforcement.
Prior to his arrest, 42 individuals were detained during Sunday’s protest and are expected to face charges in court.
He had initially evaded arrest, prompting the police search that culminated in his capture.
A police statement indicated that Barker-Vormawor is being held on charges of inciting public disorder and leading the blockade of major roads.
Authorities stated that the actions of the protesters, under his leadership, caused significant inconvenience to commuters and disrupted the city’s daily operations.
