Ghana’s President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has charged Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama to declare his stance against the fight against illegal mining (galamsey).
According to President Akufo-Addo, candidate Mahama has become two faced in his stance on illegal mining.
Addressing a campaign trail, he said, “Someone who wants to be President, he changes his mouth. One side of his mouth is saying one thing, and the other side is saying one thing.”
President Akufo-Addo disclosed that in the 2020 elections, candidate Mahama went round all the mining districts of Ghana to tell them that “when he (Mahama) comes he is going to give amnesty to everyone who has been attacked by the galamsey fight by my government.”
The President indicated that this move of Mahama led to the NPP losing votes in all mining districts.
“He (Mahama) now says that when he comes he will now enforce the galamsey laws. We want the NDC, 4 time NDC Presidential Candidate to come clean and tell us where he stands,” Akufo-Addo told Mahama.
