A video has popped up on social media platform X of the Weija Dam claimed to be turning brown by a resident of the area.
The video was shared on social media by user @withAlvin in the video, the resident narrated saying, “What you guys are seeing here right now is the Weija Dam. This is the current situation of the Weija Dam. The brown colour of the galamsey water is literally spreading into the rest of the dam”.
‘This is becoming very serious. The water that I used to see crystal clear is now becoming brown. Anytime rain falls, it does not change colour. The resident narrated.
The Weija Dam is the source of Water, for Ghana Water Company consumers in Accra this new development could generate a major health crisis for the residents of Accra.
The Ghana Water Company on numerous occasions have said they are unable to treat the water for its consumers due to the turbidity of the water from this galamsey affected rivers, forcing the company’s treatment plant in some regions to shut down on some occasions.
Ghanaians have hit the streets in recent days to protest their displeasure against illegal mining destroying the river bodies in the country and are demanding action from the government against illegal mining.
