One of the protesters of the Democracy Hub has revealed that the Inspector General of Police George Akuffo-Dampare likes to show off.
According to the protester the IGP arrested them to scare and put fear into them.
Speaking in an interview with Hitz FM, the protester said, “I knew that even if they arrested me, I was going to be behind bars for 2 days and I would be out so I wasn’t moved because I know Dampare likes to show off with the PR stuff going on”.
The Democracy Hub protestor accused the Ghana Police Service of treating them like criminals.
“We were treated like we were criminals he was showing off to scare us, I wasn’t scared, I was fighting for a good cause if I committed a crime my intense would even give up on me that I had done bad, but all that time I was so positive and motivated, the people who came to see me behind bars were even surprise”, he added.
The Democracy Hub protests were aimed at addressing the widespread illegal mining that has devastated the environment and the water bodies, sparked a wave of arrests with about 53 people arrested.
Meanwhile, 52 protesters have been granted bail with an exception to the led convener Oliver Barker-Vormawor who is still in remand.
