Former Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection and Member of Parliament for the Agona West Constituency, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, who is vying to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections, has threatened to expose the governing NPP regarding the disbursement of COVID-19 funds during the pandemic.

Speaking to the media after her court ruling on an injunction aimed at preventing her from contesting as an independent candidate, Cynthia Mamle Morrison warned that if they accuse her of misusing COVID-19 funds during her tenure as minister, she will expose the NPP for how they managed those funds.

According to her, she never handled any funds, as all transactions were conducted by the government.

“I have heard that they are trying to take me to court again regarding some COVID-19 funds. Let me state that I never touched or used any COVID-19 funds.

If they want to pursue this, I will expose them for the world to know how they spent the COVID-19 funds.

A District Magistrate Court in Agona Swedru, Central Region, has set aside an injunction against Cynthia Morrison’s candidacy as an independent parliamentary candidate for the Agona West Constituency.

The injunction had previously prevented her from presenting herself as a candidate until the court fully resolved an ongoing legal case.

Cynthia Morrison, who won the Agona West parliamentary seat for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2016 and 2020, decided to run independently after alleging that her party treated her unfairly during the internal primary for the 2024 election.

However, the plaintiff, Emmanuel Addison, is challenging her eligibility to contest in the constituency while residing in the Agona East constituency. A similar case was heard in 2020, which Hon. Morrison won.

The lawyers for the MP, Ishmael Kofi Turkson, have additionally filed a motion seeking the transfer of the case from the District Court to the High Court.
