The Council of State has pledged to help resolve the impasse between Parliament and the Judiciary that led to the indefinite adjournment of parliamentary sittings.
The assurance is contained in a press release by the media department of Parliament after a visit led by Council Chairman Nana Otuo Siribour II, to discuss the ongoing parliamentary crisis with the Speaker yesterday .
During the meeting, Speaker Bagbin briefed the Council on the situation and explained the reasoning behind his declarations of four seats in Parliament vacant.
He emphasized his commitment to upholding Ghana’s democracy and to fulfilling his duty to the people.
The Council commended Bagbin for his efforts to safeguard democratic standards through effective legislative management.
Meanwhile the Supreme Court has set Monday, November 11, 2024 to hear the substantive case between Alexander Afenyo-Markin vrs Speaker of Parliament and the Attorney General on the four seats matter.
This comes after the court dismissed the Speaker’s Application to undo the stay of execution on the case of the 4 vacant seats dismissed on October 18, 2024.
