The regional executives of the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana (C-DAG) are urgently calling on our National Executives and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) to push for an immediate 20% increment in transport fares.
This call comes in response to the overwhelming financial strain faced by our members, who are grappling with the soaring costs of spare parts and fuel.
In recent months, many of our members have been rendered jobless due to vehicle owners being unable to repair their cars.
The sharp increase in the prices of spare parts, coupled with the rising costs of fuel and other related products, has significantly affected sales. As a result, most drivers can no longer maintain their vehicles, forcing them to park their cars, which has led to a loss of income and livelihoods.
We have made repeated requests for intervention, but the situation continues to worsen. We are therefore calling on our national executives and the GPRTU to act swiftly in addressing these concerns.
‘’We believe a 20% fare increment is a necessary and urgent step to alleviate the financial pressures on drivers, enabling us to continue providing reliable transportation services to the public’’.
Failure to address these issues will leave us with no choice but to take matters into our own hands.
‘’ We are cautioning that, if the national leadership does not put adequate measures in place to support drivers, we will be forced to implement fare increments at the regional level to sustain our operations’’.
‘’We trust that our leadership and the GPRTU will heed this call for immediate action to prevent further disruptions to transportation services and ensure the livelihoods of thousands of drivers across the country’’.
