The Board Chairman of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II (Kwahumanhene) has been named by Collins Darkwah Aboaye a businessman for extorting money from him.
The businessman is accusing the Kwahumanhene of extorting GHC2m from his GHC12m loan arrangement for his company Prabhat Trading Limited.
Collins Darkwah Aboaye in a 4-page petition to President Akufo-Addo alleged that the Kwahumanhene demanded a bribe of GHC50,000 and a loan further amount ones the GHC12m loan is approved.
The businessman due to pressure fulfilled his demands but claims the Kwahumanhene was still pressuring him for additional funds and threatened to use his position to frustrate him.
The businessman due to pressure transferred GHC2m to Kwahumanhene Bank.
Part of his petition read, “His Excellency, I am by this petition humbly requesting that you intervene to help me retrieve the total sum of GHS2,406,000.00 together with the accrued interest from Daasebre and also to restrain him from using his position to intimidate and frustrate my business,”
The office of the President has also noticed they have received the petition.
The accusations against Kwahumanhene, a traditional leader, have the potential to damage the name of the ADB and the government.
Fears have also been raised about corruption and abuse of power within the Ghanaian financial sector.
