Chairman of the Catering Subcommittee for the African Games 2023, Emmanuel Kwesi Mantey, has defended the $15 per person spent on food, emphasizing that the expenditure was justified given that 13,000 people were fed.
He criticized the perception of wasteful spending, particularly in light of Ghana’s economic challenges, asserting that the detailed menu and quality provided surpassed expectations.
‘’Going at the current economy we are facing now $15 per person spent on food was inadequate’’.
Mr. Mantey explained that similar catering services would typically cost around $30 per head, highlighting their negotiation skills that secured a lower rate.
‘’Some food vendors opted out because the money mentioned will not favor them, we had to beg other food vendor to accept the deal’’.
He noted that despite budget constraints causing other companies to withdraw, they successfully delivered a buffet that has garnered acclaim since the games began in 1965.
He stated that the quality of the food provided reflects Ghana’s commitment to excellence in hosting international events.
