Rev. Fr. Michael KA Quaicoe the Director for Governance, Justice, and Peace for the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference has reiterated the Catholic Church’s decision to reject donations from illegal miners.
According to Rev. Fr. Michael KA Quaicoe the pronouncement by the Catholic Church is the absolutely right as subsequent governments have failed to utilize Ghana’s natural resources to develop the country.
The Catholic Priest further stated the church is concerned about the galamsey menace and is not confident by government attempts in the fight against illegal mining.
He further called on other spiritual groupings to be firm by questioning the source of the donations they receive.
The Catholic Archdiocese of Accra some months ago embarked on an “Environmental Prayer Walk” as part of their campaign against illegal mining (galamsey).
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo in a press statement dated October 9, 2024, directed the Minister for Defense to deploy additional military forces to intensify the ongoing “Operation Halt”, which aims to curb illegal mining activities.
