The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare has been spotted at the anti-galamsey protest ground casually dressed.
Casually dressed in white and a cap the IGP was seen engaging and motivating some of his men ahead of day 2 of the protest.
The demonstration, which will run until October 5, aims to highlight the ongoing environmental destruction caused by illegal mining, locally known as galamsey.
The protesters are also demanding the immediate release of 53 Democracy Hub protesters who were arrested and still in remand during an anti-galamsey demo some weeks ago.
Speaking at a Ghana Police discussion on the safety measures and police protocol during December the IGP reacted to issue regarding protest saying, “there is this misconception, that the police don’t want people to demonstrate, who are we that we can stop anybody from demonstrating? So, from today we want to beg of you let the message be out there we are not against anybody demonstrating”.
