Leading member of the Movement for Change, Solomon Owusu claims payment facilitator, Hubtel is siphoning money from Ghanaians.
Addressing the high cost of electricity in Ghana, he indicated that Hubtel manages ECG meters “and they do whatever they want to do with our monies. When they realise, they are not making money, then they tamper with the software so it records high rates of electricity usage.”
According to Solomon Owusu, the payment platform for electricity bills is managed by Hubtel. “We need to ask ECG why they have increased light bills. You know when we pay our bills, the money does not go directly to ECG but to Hubtel.”
He disclosed that Hubtel is owned by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and is a state capture machinery under the ruling government. “Let’s go and ask if Hubtel doesn’t belong to Bawumia. They (Hubtel after receiving bill payments) then take a percentage from all the bills collected before sending the rest to ECG,” he added.
Solomon Owusu advised Ghanaians against voting for Dr. Bawumia who is also the Presidential Candidate of the NPP whom they call a saviour. He insists Dr. Bawumia will further oppress Ghanaians rather than save them.
