Some Nursing trainees in Sampa a town in the Bono Region of Ghana, have made contrary claims to that of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to them, claims of Dr. Bawumia that they have been paid their allowances is false.
The nursing trainees who are in their second year claim the only time they heard of allowances was when they entered school as freshers.
“We were in our first year when our seniors received the allowance. Even then, they only received half of the amount,” one of the students disclosed.
Speaking about their year group, she stated, “We have not even received 10 pesewas. We have received no money and we are now in our second year and he (Dr. Bawumia) is campaigning that nurses have been paid their allowances.”
At a campaign event at the LEKMA Nursing Training College in September, Dr. Bawumia told nursing trainees that delays in allowances were better than cancellation, an indication that the government was paying nursing training allowances.
