The Kusaug Traditional Council, has declared that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) pose a significant threat to the peace and stability of the Bawku community.
This declaration comes in the wake of the controversial return of Seidu Abagre, a Mamprusi fugitive, which has reignited tensions in the already volatile region.
During a recent gathering of chiefs and queen mothers of Kusaug, emphasized the longstanding leadership of Zugraan, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, who has served as the respected Overlord of the Kusaug Traditional Council for over four decades, fostering peace and socio-economic development.
However, recent actions by the Nayiri, the Chief of Nalerigu, to enskin Abagre as a rival Bawku Naba have been met with outrage.
The government swiftly condemned this act, labeling it illegal and a threat to national security.
Kusaug Traditional Council accused Dr. Bawumia of using his power to support his tribesmen, thereby undermining the authority of the legitimate Bawku Naba.
“As soon as Dr. Bawumia became the NPP flagbearer, we feared the worst forms of impunity would emerge regarding the Bawku crisis,” Kusaug Traditional Council lamented.
She criticized President Akufo-Addo’s apparent complicity, suggesting that his administration seeks to reward Bawumia and his tribesmen at the expense of the Kusaug community’s peace.
Since Abagre’s return, the region has descended into chaos, with reports of violence resulting in the loss of lives and property.
Eyewitness accounts describe a disturbing escalation, including roadblocks and targeted attacks against Kusasis, culminating in several deaths.
Hamidu condemned these actions, holding Dr. Bawumia accountable for the resurgence of conflict.
