Former Ghanaian captain Asamoah Gyan has announced his decision to step back from political affiliations specifically, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and rather focus on humanitarian efforts.
In a statement dated Wednesday, September 11, 2024, on his social media platforms, Gyan expressed that his involvement with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been unfair to the youth of Ghana, and he now plans to devote himself to empowering young people through the Asamoah Gyan Foundation.
Earlier this year, Asamoah Gyan had actively supported Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign, serving as the chairman of the Youth and Sports Manifesto sub-committee.
However, the football star clarified in his statement that he will no longer participate in partisan politics.
He emphasised his intention to continue humanitarian work without political influence and wished all parties a peaceful election on December 7, 2024.
